Ending Hunger in West Alabama

Millions of Americans struggle to put food on the table, and the West Alabama Food Bank (WAFB), based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is committed to changing that. Operating year-round, WAFB secures, stores, and distributes food to hunger relief programs across the region. Our 52,000 square foot facility, equipped with on-site cooler and frozen storage, enables us to distribute vital resources effectively. In 2017 alone, we distributed an estimated 4 million pounds of food and supplies throughout West Alabama.

In our service area, including Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties, food insecurity rates range from 15% to 31%, significantly higher than the national average of 12.7%.

Founded in 1987, WAFB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in nine West Alabama counties. Serving a population of over 315,000 residents—more than 15% of whom live in poverty—WAFB has distributed more than 17 million pounds of food through our partner agencies. As a proud member of Feeding Alabama and an affiliate of Feeding America, we are part of a nationwide effort to end hunger.
